Adventure Crew

Advisor: Dustin Voet (voetdus@cpsboe.k12.oh.us). 


Adventure Crew’s mission is to connect city teens to nature and each other through engaging outdoor adventures. Through Adventure Crew, city teens develop the courageous spirit to step out of their comfort zone and discover new worlds - outside in nature, and inside themselves. This deep connection to nature will change the course of their lives, no matter what environment they’re in. Students who join The Crew will be able to attend a FREE and exciting adventure once every month with other CPS, Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky students. Breakfast, lunch, and transportation from Fountain Square are always provided! Some previous adventures that our students have participated in include kayaking, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, and much more! 

Withrow students who are interested in joining Adventure Crew can reach out to Mr. Voet. 

Dynasty Dance Team

Advisor: Sharon Stephens
This organization's focus is creative dance and serves as a positive outlet for students to study, exercise, express themselves, and give back to the community. 

DECA

Advisor: Michael Principato 
DECA is a marketing club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA is a student-centered organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for students enrolled in marketing education classes. It is a co-curricular organization and serves as an integral part of the classroom instructional program.

Girls to Women

Advisor: Tina Gilliand 
Girls to Women Leadership Collaborative is designed to provide equitable access for female students to leadership development opportunities that will transform school cultures for the better. Girls to Women aims for young girls to become strong, respected and compassionate leaders and agents of change now and as adults, focusing on developing solutions for issues facing them. Students will design and implement campaigns to motivate their peers, and, in addition, will create, develop, launch and manage school-based businesses.

The collaborative's pillars: Leadership, Peer Leadership Campaigns, Book Club, Entrepreneurship, Servant Leadership, Mentor Network, and Pathways to Career.

  • Competencies
    The Girls to Women Leadership Collaborative includes monthly competencies: Inspiration, Confidence Perseverance, Optimism, Determination and Goal-Oriented.

M.O.R.E. - Men Organized, Respectful and Educated

Advisor: Douglas Toler
The M.O.R.E. Program nurtures academic success and strong character development among African-American and other at-risk young men to promote measurable improvements in academic achievement, grade-level promotion, graduation rates and college readiness. The M.O.R.E Club includes after-school programming, and monthly and quarterly enrichment opportunities that include financial literacy, leadership development, good citizenship, health and wellness, college and career awareness, social skills development, academic support and community service.

Program Goals
The M.O.R.E. program strives to achieve the following measurable goals:

  • Increase reading proficiencies by one grade level
  • Increase student performance in math, science and in public speaking
  • Increase the number of African-American males enrolled in AA and AP classes
  • Each student maintains a 2.5 Grade Point Average
  • Increase academic performance and test scores on the Ohio Achievement Assessment, helping to close the achievement gap as reported on the Ohio Report Card
  • Reduce the number of student discipline issues by 50 percent (detentions, in-school and out-of-school suspensions)
  • Strengthen the relationship between the M.O.R.E program and the surrounding communities throughout Cincinnati
  • Increase the number of African-American males attending college or postsecondary education/training
  • Increase the knowledge of the M.O.R.E. brand throughout Cincinnati

National Honor Society

Advisor: Melissa Tucker, M.Ed, LPC  
Established in 1921, The National Honor Society has been the premier scholastic organization that recognizes student achievement in the areas of academic, leadership, community engagement and character. Eligible high school students (10-12) need to meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates eligible for induction to this chapter must be members of the sophomore, junior or senior class. Students may not be inducted after Spring of their senior year.
  • To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been in attendance for a period of at least one semester at Withrow University High School.
  • Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. This scholastic level of achievement shall remain fixed, and shall be the required minimum level of
  • scholastic achievement for admission to candidacy. All students who rise in scholarship to or above this standard may be admitted to candidacy for selection into the society.
  • Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum number of 10 student service learning hours documented with their counselor.
  • Upon meeting the grade level, attendance, SSL hour and GPA standard requirements, candidates shall then be considered based upon their service, leadership and character.

Student Government

Advisor: Tina Gilliand 
The Student Senate offers a representative structure for elected students, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school administration, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students. Student senate helps share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns regarding school improvement. They help raise funds for schoolwide activities, including social events and community projects. 

Student Ambassadors

Advisor: Sarah Hager & Brock Rutledge 
Student Ambassadors represent Withrow to prospective students and families, community partners and various companies and organizations. The key role of a student ambassador is to engage with students, answer any questions, conduct campus tours and participate in events and programs conducted on school property. 

True Colors

Adviser: Amy Collopy & Cody Waddell 
The Mission of the True Colors Club is to promote a safe space for all young people to socialize and create an all-inclusive platform to encourage acceptance, inclusion, and celebration of all differences among students, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Social and Emotional Learning activities will be incorporated to help students successfully navigate the path of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship skills

Yearbook Club

Advisor: Lana Powers
Yearbook Club is a student-focused publication club where students work together to collaboratively build the WUHS yearbook each year. This club is open to all high school students interested in documenting events and activities throughout the school year. Jobs include photography, writing, editing.
